I still remember when I first bought my first Desktop PC for 33K. It was P4 based Celeron machine with 128 MB of RAM (which was a standard then), 40GB HDD, CD RW, TV Tuner, 5.1 Channel speakers (still using them :o) ... ). This used to be a very good configuration then.

In those days Laptops costed 80K+, I am not talking of times of my Grandpa of my Dad, I am talking of just 3 years back from now. But now when I go to the market and see the XBox coming in 22K and Laptops coming with a starting range of 26K (celeron), I think how much does my old desktop box costs now.

Every year, I analyse that there is a product which catches the eyes of the customer and everone around you will be talking to purchase one. Like a few years back it was a mobile handset, or if I go back few more years back it was a PC, everyone was purchasing one. This years its Laptop, and the brands leave no stone unturned to catch this oppotunity, today only I saw a Advertisement for Sony Vio (My Fav Brand, which used to cost nothing less than 80K even till March this year). This ad was for a Lappy with C2D (Core 2 Duo, m a techhie :-) ... ) with 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD and was costing 54K. Now if u have Sony Vio for 54K then u can expect the price for other brands which are mass gahtering brands.

Just to highlight a few u have Compaq starting from 26K, C2D coming for 48K. HCL starting at 24K C2D coming for 43K(my piece), HP with C2D coming in 53K. Then there are other models also like Acer and Dell which are also cheap.

Then I was really shocked to see this : MACBook coming for 56K with C2D a real beutiful peice.

So, what I say is that this year its Lappies which are raining and everyone can get drenched into it.

Ubuntu

This is yet another Linux distribution, but in my view stands high above the other distros. The current version of the same being 7.04 available for both i386 and 64-bit architecture. I tried this for hte first time when was having PC but the experience was not that good, as its a live installation disk that loads the basic OS on ur machine and then u can start the installation from there. It requires min. 256 MB of RAM and my box was having mere 128 of it.

The Second Try. This was a satisfying experience, everything go installed but the performance was poor, it was then when I suddenly realized that I have installed the 32-bit version.

The Third try - I downloaded the 64-bit version of 7.04. Installed it and this is amazing.

You can order the free CDs for the distro. Follow the url.

https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

Order your copy... and give it a try for sure. atleast to the live version of it that runs through the CD. Just insert the disk and boot from it.

For any help on this. you can mail me at binaykumarg@gmail.com

I had been reading the news of how India is becoming a global giant in IT, and I also had been listening to people in my IT circle. One of my friend said this to me during a very casual session of talk, but this particular statement initiated a thought process in me, what he said was - "I am looking for the one who's satisfied in this Industry, if you you find one, do bring him to me. I'll love to see him."

If you are also working in this industry, then I ask a question to you- Are you satisfied, If the answer to this is Yes, then let me come to the second round. Are you happy with the work you are doing ? Are you happy with the way your life is heading ? Do you think that your potentials are used in the right stream ? If this also brings yes in you. Then my last two questions to you. Do you think the work that you are doing can't be done by a +2 or +5 candidate ? and the last one, after every working day, are you satisfied with the innovative work that you have done in the office,:-) that is going to help the nation in its growth ? :-)

I bet for 90% of us working in IT industry the answers can't be yes.

Its a blind race, not for work its for money. You look for onsite coz of money, you look for a job change, not for work but for money. In all this unknowingly your priorities have been changed.

I'll continu on this in my next blog.

USB Disabled ? Enable it...

Go to Start --> run --> type 'regedit'
Follow thru this path.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR

Locate the word 'start' in the right side pane. Double click it and give it a value '4'
And enjoy using USB anywhere, and lemme tell u this, there is no catch to this.

The only pre-requisites to this is that u must have the permission to edit Registry.

Happy Transfering.

Talking about myself. My Interests are -

Outdoor - Playing Badminton
Indoor - Internet Surfing
Listening to Music (Mad after it).
Technical - Digging into Linux Programming & Administration

As per my interests I'll be posting the links and urls here for the ones sharing same Cup of Coffee with me.

Regading the music, I have a huge collection of mp3 with me. And thus if you request for one to me. Probability is 70% that I can provide you with that. :)

So, here I start with some of the urls that I found interesting.

  • Check before download . you must be using rapidshare to download books, mp3s etc. and many a times this happens that when you surf to the link you find that the file is not available.
    • Try this url to check whether the link is active or not. http://www.mtworld.info/filec/
Try this and Comment.

The Start....

This being the first post of mine, would like to introduce myself in this.

Born in a remote township located at a place called Malanjkhand, got my basic education there only. With the completion of +2, stepped over the next step and finsihed my graduation, and by the end of this got one thing clear that I am made for something special. I was ready to face the next phase of life, and joined the PG college and finished my Masters Degree in Computers there. Even though in the beginning it seemed to be a waste effort, but when I was to touch the finish line, I found that it has brought up a great change in me personally, professionally and socially. Though during this whole period of academics, it was change of places, change of friends and change of everything else, one single thing that remained everywhere was the will to exceed.
Talking of Malanjkhand... a place you might have rarely heard of, is actually a heaven in the middle of hills. Away from the hasty life of cities, its really a place you have ever dreamt of. A typical countryside environment where-in some roads are left unwalked for weeks, unless some children find out some time to play there, and as with every other thing I have plans to implement at this place also.

My whole education wasn't mere a degree or a qualification its something above that. I had always been a "good student :)". But not those book worm kind. It was my fortune that I always got a good circle around me, where-in the guys and girls were interested more in healthy discussions rather that gossips. From schooling to Masters I got my identity built up, 'technology freek', 'Linux Fan','Mad for Music' these are the phrases that went well with me. In these 6 years I grew in all aspects of life, there had been many up and downs, but as with a humans, dreams continued, not the ones that you see sleeping, I saw them open eyed... with all my senses in place. When I analyze them all I see a single common thing a deep desire to excel.

"To excel" does not take the usual meaning with me , to me its a combination of a few things : success in the everything I do, to do the things that others are feared of steeping into, and to be a good human being & above all to be a good son, brother & friend.

And thus when someone asks me "Whats up", I always think what should I say, 'I am dreaming'. No, I am chasing... my Dreams.

Cheers.
Thats Me.
